The Last King of Scotland - A *must* see. I can easily see why Forrest Whitaker took an Oscar home for this movie. Inspired by real people and events, it tells the fictional story of a young man who becomes Idi Amin's personal physician. At first young Dr. Garrigan is enamored with the charming Amin, but it doesn't take long for him to realize that Amin is an inhumane, paranoid and brutal man. James McAvoy does a wonderful job as the young doctor.
Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix - My 19 yo complained about the things that had to be shortened and/or rearranged from the book in order to make this movie, but I liked it anyway.
Catch and Release - WASTE OF TIME. Even worse was that after wasting two hours watching it, hoping for eventual sense to come out of the nonsense, Jennifer Garner's character doesn't come to her senses and fall in love with Dennis (Sam Jaeger) who deserves to have someone fall in love with him. Exasperating.
Shiva Rea Fluid Power Vinyasa Flow Yoga - Hmmmmmm. Good, I suppose, in the weirdest sense of the word. I'm used to doing more athletic yoga without a lot of "feel the universe in your veins, be rooted in the one breath" type of stuff. Well, that's what this is. It's a 2-disc set, 243 minutes of yoga. 23 guided sequences plus 6 pre-set practices. I previewed it and then did the 41 minute "Lunar Flow for Flexibility." It is filmed - beautifully - by Sion Michel (Memoirs of a Geisha) at White Sands National Park, New Mexico. It was hard to take it seriously and not crack up while Shiva said things like "Experience the substance of the body and the world as made of up vibrating particle waves..." "Drifting more deeply, feel each wave as it condenses from infinity and dissolves back into it continuously..." You must read those words in your most mystical, semi-monotone voice. Think Luna Lovegood in Harry Potter. All said, when I was done my hips were definitely open from the sequence that focused on hip-opening/forward bends and the meditation/breathe part definitely made me feel like jello. It was the spiral water core meditation that it opened with that REALLY made me feel like a goofball. Yes, this is the type of yoga that requires the blinds be closed and everyone made to leave the house - even the dogs looked at me very strangely. :( Makes me wonderful what her "Yoga Trance Dance" is all about!
Like Red on a Rose - Alan Jackson - An album full of beautiful love songs. A review said it's a "middle-aged man taking stock of what and who matters most to him in life, and speaking his art without artifice."
L'eggs Silken Mist Thigh Highs - A big problem, for starters: The smallest size these come in is "B." Size "B" supposedly runs from 5'2" all the way up to 5'11" which doesn't make a whole lot of sense. (Where will that extra 9" of leg go if you're on the shorter end of the range?) I decided that I didn't want to deal with the "pantyhose up to the ribcage" ordeal today, so I bought these anyway figuring that I'm 5'4" and that's sort of the middle of the range. What a joke! At first I thought they were fine, if rather high up on the thigh (like, okay, all the way up unlike the picture on the package which is mid-thigh). Wearing thigh-highs always makes you feel sexy, even though they're under cover. Off I went... and on the way to Sunday school Pat says, "Better duck into a room and fix that." The darn things were too big and were flopping down, down, down until they were rolled up over one knee and on the way down on the other. Thus began my 2 hour battle to attempt to discreetly fix the hose. I also put a couple of good runs in them in the process. (No Nonsense also has thigh highs but they only come in Medium and Long sizes).
Healthy 'N Fit 100% Egg Protein - Vanilla Ice Cream Flavor. 24 gms of protein per 3/4 scoop. No carbs. No fat. No artificial sweeteners - it is sweetened with stevia. Tastes great. When you stir it up, it bubbles/foams a tiny bit, almost as if you have dish soap residue...it's just something about the egg protein that does that.
Aquafina, Dasani and Nestle Pure Life - Boo Hiss! All came clean and admitted that their bottled water is merely tap water (Nestle's even comes from public supplies). Just think of all the energy used in bottling and packaging these products, plus all the plastic waste created.
