for everyone

The shock and horror of the 35W bridge collapse in Minneapolis is all over the news. My son-in-law drove on the bridge almost daily until he graduated from school back in March. He said that there are very few alternatives - none that are equivalent to the interstate for the level of traffic that will be diverted. I wonder how the other bridges will withstand the extra traffic? It's scary to contemplate.

Right now, it's so important to be praying for the victims and families of that catastrophe. My heart shudders at the reality that there are people waiting for family members to call or come home ... and hearing nothing one way or another. I hope everyone gets answers soon. God bless the rescue workers!

Way back in June 1983, the I-95 bridge in over the Mianus River in Connecticut collapsed. Pat and I had just traveled that bridge back and forth two days before it collapsed. My brother, Kerry, traveled it hours before the collapse. We were definitely counting our blessings.

I have always hated big bridges (and long tunnels). When we traveled to see family in Florida every summer, we had to cross the Chesapeake Bay Tunnel- Bridge, 23 miles of terror as far as I was concerned as a child.

Other bridges I always hated: The Tappan Zee Bridge, NY, the Verrazano-Narrows Bridge, NY, the Rainbow Bridge to Niagara Falls, NY, the St. Johns River Veterans Memorial Bridge, Sanford, FL, and the I-10 Mobile Bay Bridge in Alabama (Bayway). It sucks to be stuck on ANY of these bridges in rush hour traffic.

There is a creepy, old and very decrepit LONG scary bridge over a deep gorge in the closest city to me that I have to cross next week to take my father to a doctor's appointment. Every time I go on this bridge, I pray and try not to be freaked out in front of the kids.
